Who are we?

Teresa Powney

Teresa has been involved in building learning strategies to widen participation in disadvantaged communities for the last ten years.  As a founder member of FamilyLearningUK, she believes Family Learning and Study Support to be essential elements of effective learning strategies for the whole community.

Teresa is proud to have been part of the writing team for a number of specialist family learning publications and programmes, and is keen to continue to develop new approaches to learning.

She has been responsible for accessing in excess of £1,000,000 for schools and community organisations within the West Midlands.

Malcolm Ratledge

As a qualified teacher Malcolm has over thirty years experience in both primary and secondary phase education.

Also a founder member of Familylearning UK, he has worked with Education Extra, CEDC, the West Midlands Extended Learning Partnership and ContinYou - a national education and community charitable organisation.

Together with his co-consultant he has written several bespoke learning programmes in conjunction with the Walsall Family Learning and Study Support team, television writer Vo Fletcher and rock legend Noddy Holder.  These focus on an holistic, family centred approach to extending learning – both at home and in school settings.

Malcolm has authored successful funding applications for over £1,000,000 and has established innovative learning opportunities as well as delivering Family Learning, Study Support and Extended Learning training programmes in Greece, Russia and Zimbabwe; as well as nearer his home in the West Midlands.

Barbara Bennett

Barbara has managed major corporate training and conference events using Prince2 project management skills and techniques to ensure efficient and effective delivery.  She employs NLP strategies to elicit positive outcomes with children, parents and professional alike.  As a school governor, parent and active member of various parent teacher organisations she has highly informed knowledge of all aspects of school management and effective operational delivery.

Why Learning Beyond?

Teresa, Malcolm and Barbara have an established commitment to Lifelong Learning, in particular, innovative learning opportunities outside the school day.  They made a decision to build upon their proven track record in Family Learning by expanding and developing the breadth of their work in a specialist area they are both passionate about.

They are qualified full NLP practitioners and accredited Family Learning Trainers.  They have also substantiated their commitment to lifelong learning by completing and achieving Prince2 Practitioner status.

What do we do?

  • We encourage opportunities for extended learning – Study Support and Family Learning - in all schools and other centres for learning in the community
  • We seek to actively help those schools and organisations that have significant numbers of the most socially and academically deprived children, young people and adults
  • We work in partnership with a variety of agencies to develop strategies and programmes which equitably target disadvantage
  • We wish to extend this strategy to all schools and other centres for learning, through offering our services as a delivery vehicle for activities and a reference point for advice, guidance, information and support
  • We provide bespoke workshops and presentations for conferences and seminars, as well as for individual schools, local authorities and other organisations.  Topics include Effective fundraising, Using Neuro-Linguistic Programming Techniques and Extended Learning through Study Support and Family Learning
  • We also provide a direct route for accessing external funds through individual bespoke applications written by the team.  In fact, our team have successfully raised over £1 million pounds for education and community organizations since 2000!

Learning Beyond and proud of it!

We have established ourselves as a direct result of the demand for high quality services by schools, private industry and the voluntary sector and the continuing need to learn beyond limitations!
